The Youth Ministries Coordinator is responsible for organizing, guiding and further developing the Dayspring Youth Ministry Program in all areas relevant to youth ministry. The Youth Coordinator, will maintain clear lines of communication and actively cooperate with the Youth Council and other adult leaders to enable spiritual growth to happen in a safe and trusting environment.


  1. BS/BA degree preferably in education or counseling (Consideration will be given to other academic areas.)
  2. Alignment with the mission of Dayspring United Methodist Church and an appreciation of Progressive Christianity
  3. Trustworthiness and ability to keep confidences
  4. Listening, communication, organizational and prioritizing skills
  5. Experience in Christian Education for Youth Ministry strongly preferred
  6. Demonstrated ability to meet, recruit and work with youth, parents, volunteers and colleagues
  7. Driver’s license and clean driving record
  8. Current State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Finger Print Clearance Card


  1. Administrative Duties and Office Responsibilities
    • Supervise/order materials for Sunday School Formation and other youth programing
    • Coordinate with appropriate committees for special events and emphasis, mission and other trips, regular programming, District and Conference events
    • Follow up on absentees from our Youth Ministry Programs
  2. Duties related to Supervising Youth Ministries
    • 1. Provide regular supervision, training, and coordinating events for teachers/leaders and volunteers
    • Visit youth classes/groups on a regular basis
    • Create and/or facilitate a Youth Council
    • Work with Pastors and Youth Ministry Teams to provide a grounded and well-rounded Christian Youth education program aligned with the Dayspring UMC mission.
    • Understand the structure of Dayspring United Methodist Church and the Desert Southwest Annual Conference
  3. Meeting attendance
    • Teach/Lead Sunday formation with youth group
    • Attend staff meetings
  4. Reporting/writing required
    • Maintain an updated directory of youth in church
    • Contribute to Koinonikos newsletter each month by the 15th for the following month
    • Develop curriculum for youth ministry
    • Continue to identify ways for ongoing assimilation of all youth (Newsletter, Texting, Instagram)
    • Share and promote programs/information with the youth and congregation through Youth News emails and other social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, Remind 101, Snapchat, etc.)


  1. Help identify ways youth can be involved in meaningful ministry and missions at church and in the community.
  2. Plan and implement the following events
    • Fall Festival (Children’s Ministry does Trunk or Treat part)
    • Sierra Service Project
    • Christmas Eve Candlelighting
    • Confirmation Sunday
    • Easter Sunrise Service
    • Youth Sunday
    • Volleyball League


  1. Recruit, train and maintain a team of adult volunteers who will do the teaching, leading and supervising the Youth Ministry programs
  2. Educate all adults in Youth Ministry regarding the Safe Sanctuaries policy in coordination with the Children’s Ministry.
  3. Provide opportunities for teachers/leaders to meet individually with the Youth Ministries Coordinator at a time convenient to them for coaching, nurturing and spiritual growth
  4. Find meaningful ways to recognize and thank volunteers in Youth Ministry


Compensation: Compensation is determined by the Staff/Parish Relations Committee upon recommendation from the senior pastor, as part of the Annual Budget review process

Work hours: Compensation is based on a 20 hours/week
